Our verdict
If you want a V-twin lawn tractor and the Mountfield 1530H is £400 out of budget, the Murray MX175-107 is the obvious answer. Same Briggs Intek 7180 engine you'd find on a John Deere E120 at twice the price. The trade-off is the transaxle and the dealer network — both are below Mountfield/John Deere standard, and you'll feel that at the 5-year mark when something breaks.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Briggs Intek 7180 V-twin — smoother than single-cylinder rivals
- 107cm cut + collection bag standard
- Hydrostatic drive (foot pedal)
- Cheapest V-twin lawn tractor in UK new
Cons
- Murray UK distribution remains patchy post-B&S restructure
- Hydrostatic transaxle is the budget Tuff-Torq, not the K46
- Steel deck stamping not as deep as Mountfield 1530H

Buying second-hand
Used MX175-107s land at £950-1500 depending on hours. Intek 7180s are durable but expensive to rebuild; under 200 hours is the safe buy. Test the hydrostatic in both directions and check for jerky engagement (fluid change due, £35 fix). Confirm the catcher bag is included — replacement is £180 from B&S spares.
