Our verdict
The mower that finally killed the small-petrol-self-propelled category. Cuts as wide as a Honda HRG, runs for 45 minutes on a 5Ah battery, and costs less to run than a Hyundai. If you have a 1000m² lawn and don't want petrol, this is the answer. The only competition is from EGO's own LMX5300SP-XP, which is the same machine with a brushless motor and a longer warranty — buy the LMX if it's only £80 more.
Pros & cons
Pros
- 21-inch steel deck — petrol-class cut width on a battery
- Variable-speed self-drive via the bail-arm trigger
- EGO 56V batteries are the largest on the market
- Folds vertically for storage — fits any shed
Cons
- 32kg is heavy for a battery mower
- 5Ah battery only just covers 600m² — bigger lawns need 7.5Ah
- Mulch plug is a separate buy

Buying second-hand
Used LM2114E-SPs trade at £400-500 with a battery and charger. The deal is to find one ex-display on eBay with the battery still under EGO's 5-year warranty — register it in your name and you effectively get a new mower for half-price. Avoid any without the original charger; aftermarket EGO chargers are unreliable.
