Our verdict

The bottom line

Stihl's mid-range robotic — solid hardware with the Stihl dealer support advantage. The RMI 422.2 PC handles up to 800m² well and the app scheduling is straightforward. For the same money the Husqvarna 410 XE NERA gives you satellite navigation upgrade options.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Stihl iMOW app for scheduling
  • Quieter than petrol equivalent (60 dB)
  • GPS theft tracking included
  • Stihl dealer network for service

Cons

  • Boundary wire required (no satellite navigation option)
  • Cutting width is small at 20cm
  • Premium price for capability matched by Husqvarna 305 at lower cost
  • Stihl battery family less widely shared than Husqvarna

Buying second-hand

Used-market tip

£480-680 used. Check the cutting disc for chipped blades (£12 for a replacement pack). Always look at the wheel motors — high-time examples have play in the front swivel. Boundary wire installation is the biggest pain — pay £150-200 for a Stihl dealer to do it properly.

Where to look: Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree are usually 20–30% cheaper than eBay UK for petrol mowers because most sellers want local pickup. eBay tends to win on cordless and electric (lighter, easier to ship). Always insist on a starting demonstration before paying.
