Our verdict
The bottom line
The mower that paved the way for the SP46. Older but still capable and the used supply is huge — typically £20–40 cheaper than an SP46 in equivalent condition. If you find a clean one, snap it up.

Used-market tip
£70–140 is the realistic used range. Massive Marketplace volume — never overpay. Test self-propel under load. Drive cable replacement is £15 DIY. Avoid any with melted plastic around the muffler — sign of dry-running and overheating.
Where to look: Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree are usually 20–30% cheaper than eBay UK for petrol mowers because most sellers want local pickup. eBay tends to win on cordless and electric (lighter, easier to ship). Always insist on a starting demonstration before paying.
