Our verdict
Built down to a price, but the price is the point. For a flat front lawn under 250m² that gets a weekly cut from April to October, the Princess 38 Li is enough mower. Don't expect it to handle three-week-old growth or anything resembling rough — it's a tidy-up tool, not a workhorse. The Greenworks G24X2LM41 is a better mower for £40 more.

Buying second-hand
Used Princess 38 Lis flood the market every August at £140-180 from people who upgraded to a Flymo robot. Check the battery age — Mountfield batteries die at 3 years regardless of charge cycles. Replacement is £79 from STIGA spares; refuse to pay more than £150 if the battery is over 2 years old.
