Our verdict

The bottom line

The HYM510SPE undercuts Mountfield by £30-50 and adds electric start, which is the genuine USP. The Hyundai engine is competent if not heroic — expect 7-10 years of reliable use rather than the 15-20 a Honda HRX delivers. A solid value buy if you don't care about stripes.

Pros & cons

Buying second-hand

Used-market tip

£160-260 used. Always check the electric-start battery (small sealed Ah pack under a side panel). A dead battery doesn't kill the mower (recoil still works) but a working button is worth £30. The IC196 takes the same NGK plug and air filter as the Briggs 750EX — spares are cheap and on shelf at any Hyundai or generic small-engine dealer.

Where to look: Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree are usually 20–30% cheaper than eBay UK for petrol mowers because most sellers want local pickup. eBay tends to win on cordless and electric (lighter, easier to ship). Always insist on a starting demonstration before paying.
