Our verdict
The bottom line
The mower people who care about their lawn buy when they can afford to buy once. Hayter Harrier with a Honda engine is genuinely a forever machine — 30-year-old Harriers still come up serviced. The 56AD is the largest, most pro-grade Harrier; overkill for under 1500m² but transcendent for over.

Used-market tip
£600–900 used. Honda engine hours matter — under 200 is excellent. Hayter rear roller and AD drive linkage are the wear points; both serviceable at any Hayter dealer. Original Hayter spec sticker on the deck adds £80 to fair value. Anything with welded chassis repairs, walk away.
Where to look: Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree are usually 20–30% cheaper than eBay UK for petrol mowers because most sellers want local pickup. eBay tends to win on cordless and electric (lighter, easier to ship). Always insist on a starting demonstration before paying.
